On November 10, 2020, Judge Brenda Penny granted the petition to add Bessemer Trust to Britney Spears's conservatorship as co-conservator of her estate.
Bessemer Trust shares these duties with Jamie Spears, whom Britney requested be removed from his appointment as co-conservator in August 2020. However, that request was denied. Since Bessemer Trust is not the sole conservator of the estate, Judge Penny did not order co-conservator Jamie Spears and business management company TriStar Entertainment to provide records of the conservatorship estate to Bessemer Trust.
Conservators were ordered to provide an accounting of the estate by March 1, 2022, which will be reviewed at an order to show cause hearing on April 1, 2022.
The standard powers of an estate conservator in California include managing contracts, operating businesses, paying bills, and hiring employees to assist in managing the estate.
This amendment grants James Spears & Bessemer Trust additional powers:
"obtain all documents and records relating to the Conservatee and her assets"
"take all actions necessary to secure the Conservatee's assets"
"revoke all powers of attorneys, including powers of attorney for making health care decisions and managing real estate, and to terminate any and all agencies"
"participate in any litigation with respect to which the Conservatee is a party or has an interest, and the power to retain counsel and experts, and to pay same from the Conservatorship Estate, not only as to the family law case but for any other matter"
"perform any and all acts that the Conservatee can perform...with respect to the local, state, or federal tax liabilities of the Conservatee"
"prosecute civil harassment restraining orders"
"pursue opportunities related to professional commitments and activities...so long as they are approved by Ms. Spears' medical team"
"select, invest in and monitor the particular investment vehicles for the conservatorship of the estate"
"employ attorneys, accountants, agents, depositories, and employees and to pay the expenses"
"contract for the conservatorship...including asserting or waiving confidentiality agreements"
This does not grant Bessemer Trust Jamie's previously established power to control Britney's trusts.
